why some updates are not installing in my XP sp0?

some updates are not installing...i am even tried directly from the update
sites...but i am not sure which can be my download..
for eg...i amunable to install Security Update for Windows XP (KB839645).
i don't know which edition i am having..
winver running only shows version 5.1 xp
