Why Outlook 2000 can't find WAB.DLL file on Vista?

Stargazing Susan

I have installed Office 2000 on my new laptop - Windows Vista. I keep
getting the error from Outlook that it cannot find the WAB.DLL file. It is
becoming quite annoying to have this message keep popping up on my screen.
Can I get it somewhere?

TIA, Susan

Vista doesn't have the Windows Address Book. It uses it's own Contacts. If
you want to have a shot at using Outlook 2000 on Vista (and it's not
compatible or supported), it MAY work if you install it in Corporate/Workgroup
mode so that it doesn't try to use the Windows Address Book service.

In addition to what Brian has advised you, please remember that Office 2000
is a 10 year old suite. Microsoft doesn't support it anymore so Vista and
Windows 7 really aren't meant to be compatible with it. You can try Brian's
advice which is good but you may have to get a newer version of Office.

In addition, Office 2000 is end-of-lifed:

Office 2000 - Microsoft will continue to offer mainstream support for Office
2000 through June 30, 2004. The Office 2000 extended support period will
last from July 1, 2004 through July 14, 2009. The latest Office 2000 service
pack is required for hotfix support.

Extended support ended for Office 2000 last year and so no further patches
are being released for it.
