Why no dynamic disks on laptops?

I know I have in the past converted a drive to "dynamic" and then been
able to increase the size of the partition if the drive has unused
space or I delete some other partition. I tried doing that on my laptop
and couldn't find any option to make my C: drive dynamic. The main
partition is NTFS. It does have a small diagnoztic partion at the front
(from Dell). It also has several gig of unused space. I looked through
info files and found where it says a disk cannot be changed to dynamic
on a portable computer. First, why? Second, how does it even know it's
on a portable? Or is it the diagnostic partition that's preventing it?

Thanks,
Tom

Laptops usually only support a single internal hard disk,
so they cannot take advantage of the advanced volume
options that dynamic disks provide. Dynamic disks have
advantages over basic disks only when there are two or
more dynamic disks in the system.
