Why is the date received wrong in email?

Several employees in my office received emails today, 6/23/2009, that were
filed as being received 4/23/2009. The date in the email also shows a
timestamp on April 23. Has anyone else experiened this or know why this may
be happening? We also received emails today that show the correct date--
even only a few seconds later.

A computer along the path the mail takes has the date wrong - its usually
because the sender has the date wrong - often caused by looked at a date in
the task bar calendar instead of in outlook or on a wall calendar. If
multiple senders are affected, check the server.

Look at the Received headers in the received e-mail to see if the sender
or a mail server has the wrong date.

I have a similar problem in which the e-mails that I send out posts a 20-25
minute time difference earlier than what the actual time is. Say I send out
an e-mail at 01:58 which I always send it to myself also, when I receive it,
the time stamp is 01:41. I have checked my system and my local server along
with my cell phone and all of the times are the same. Has anyone ran across
this type of situation? It looks like I am leaving 20 or so minutes early,
but when checking with other recepients, it is showing that the e-mail was
sent out at 01:58 the actual time that it went out. It is really puzzling me
and any help would be very much appreciated.

Maybe the mail server clock is off?

Review the internet header (its in message options) and see which server has
the wrong time - something definitely is wrong on one of the computers that
touches the mail.
