Why is outlook crashing when I attach a file?

Essentially what is happening is that when I am trying to attach a file to an
email, outlook crashes and ends up directing me to updates, which have not
solved the problem. When I go to attach a file to an email, the moment I
switch from "my documents" to another location, the program does not respond
and crashes. What gives!?
