Why is my email in outlook being delivered a day late??

I have Outlook 2003. It has functioned normally until recently. I am able
to send messages without a problem. However, messages sent to me are not
brought into my personal folder until the next day. They previously were
downloaded from the server (Cox) immediately after clicking sent/receive.
If I go to the Cox server web mail site I can see the messages waiting to be
delivered. If I go into Outlook and click send/receive and then check the
web mail server, they have left. In Outlook the standard message after
clicking send/receive indicates a number of messages are coming in but they
do not then appear in my InBox. Reclicking only brings up "send/receive
complete"! The next day, almost exactly 24 hours later, all the messages I
saw in the web mail site mysteriously show up in the In box without any
prompting on my part. I simply open Outlook and there they are, a day late.
Cox says this has nothing to do with their server and it is a problem with
the program. They do not support Outlook, only OE. Is there a simple
solution to this annoying problem??
Thanks everyone.

The clock in the systray is correct but I suspect that is not what you meant
by checking the system clock??

Do you have the Unread Mail search folder defined? If so, that may give you
a handle on where the messages are after they arrive. Also consider
resetting the view you're using in Inbox.

Brian,
Resetting the InBox view worked!! Didn't know this option existed and
probably would not have found it anyway since Outlook has so many nooks and
crannies, folders, subfolders, etc. How do you find these little "pearls".
Must be part of the "landscape"
I have 3 search folders in my "all mail folders" area, followup, large
mail, and unread mail. Don't know how to define them otherwise or is that
important?
Also any suggestions or thoughts regarding the system clock issue
suggested by Milly??
I have noted a slight change in Outlook since resetting the InBox. I no
longer have a message at the bottom of the Inbox pane that says how many
messages are coming in and when the transfer has been completed. Probably
some box that needs to be checked to get this going again??
Anyway many thanks for the help.

Great.

It's true that there are options in Outlook that are difficult to find.
How do you find these little "pearls"

I look for them, either because I'm curious, because I run into the same
problems, or because I read about them in these newsgroups. Your
description suggested to me that the messages were really there in your
Inbox, but the view was preventing you from seeing them. A reset of the
view, then, is a logical thing to try.
I have 3 search folders in my "all mail folders" area, followup,
large mail, and unread mail. Don't know how to define them otherwise
or is that important?

Right-click the "Search Folders" folder and choose "New Search Folder".
You'll see a lot of searchs you can define. If one of the supplied searches
doesn't appeal, you can create you own with the "Create a custom Search
Folder" at the very bottom. Youi'll be able to access the same search
capability that Advanced Search provides and create a "folder" that shows
the messages matching those criteria.
Also any suggestions or thoughts regarding the system clock issue
suggested by Milly??

I think that Milly was taking a difference appoach to the problem that in
some cases may have been the correct one but that, in your particular case,
was not. There are multiple reasons for messages not appearing. It just
happens that in this case, I was correct. There are many other cases where
I would have guessed wrong while others would have suggsted the correct
solution.

Possibly. Click View and see if "Status Bar" (the last item in the menu) is
checked. If not, check it.

You were correct again. Status bar was not checked. Everything is back to
normal. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
