why does it ask to save a file as an xps instead of just printing

I am frustrated by office word 2007. I try print a document and it asks me to
save it as an xps document first. I have to retype a name for the file, save
it, then open the document then ask it to print. It will not print it
automaticly.
I am very frustrated.

You are using the wrong printer. Office installs an xps printer (for what reason I don't know),
but check that your real printer is set as default.

This behavior suggests that the default printer is set up as the Microsoft
Office XPS Writer.

Close Word. Go to the Control Panel and change the default printer to a
"real printer" rather than the Microsoft Office XPS Writer. Start Word again
and reopen the document.

When you press the Office button, point to Print and click Print, you should
see the name of "real printer" in the Name box under Printer in the Printer
dialog box.

It is not installed by default.
