Why does hitting enter key moves cursor 2 spaces not to the next l

Using Word 2003/XP Home:
Can't find any settings in autoformat or the customized settings that can
fix this. I don't care about moving the cursor 2 spaces I just want to go to
the next line... it only does this on certain documents, but couldn't find
anything about specific document settings. This is really irritating!

Go to Format | Paragraph and see whether your paragraph has Space
Before/After.
