Why can't I attach a file in Outlook?

Recently I have tried unsuccessfully to attach files to an email message. The
program locks up and won't respond and then is closed losing the original
message...pretty annoying to say the least. Anyone have any similar issues
and if so, how did you resolve it?

FWIW, from the Microsoft side a new Knowledge Base Article (KBA) was
released on Apr 15th.
