Which wireless router?

Brandon

I am attempting to help my father, who is 1700 miles away choose a wireless
router for his new(soon) cable connection.
Simple set-up really, a cable modem, 2 PC's and 1 Laptop.

I have shopped around a bit, and the only thing I have determined, is that
he should go with a "g" type system.
Problem is, which manufacturer?
I did recently help a friend install a netgear wireless router. I am leery
of them, I called support and was handed off to someone in India I think,
could barely understand a word they said, and they seemed pretty offended
when I ask them to repeat instructions. a call back resulted in the same, I
think all their support is OOC( out of country) No offense to anyone of
that particular ethic background, it just frustrated me.

The brands I have seen...
Linksys, Belkin, Microsoft, d-link...prices varied form 59-129 for a 4 port
wireless "g" router, cards from 29-79
Any recommendations?

Thanks
Brandon

In my experience... I've been very pleased with Linksys... pleased with
Netgear... unhappy with Belkin..

I have a Netgear that installed without a hitch. The web support was good
as far as documentation and downloading new firmware, etc. (never talked to
a person) The recent issue of Maximum PC recommended both a Microsoft unit
and a d-link unit. A friend of mine has used several Linksys units and
recommended them to me - I'll probably be getting one of those to set up a
router for my parents this weekend.

I have the D-Link DI-624 with two D-Link DWL-G650 PC cards. Everything
worked out of the box with no problems.

Linksys is my choice. I have connected three computers with cat5 and 3
wireless to my cable internet account. No problems.

I helped my son do his network with a Netgear wireless router. One computer
hooked up to wireless router via cat 5 and second via usb wireless. We had
trouble with the USB connector on second PC. It would freeze up on boot up.
Returned to store for second one and still had boot problems. Removed it
and installed the Linksys USB connector, but still using Netgear wireless
router and second PC would boot then.

I am sticking with Linksys.

Linksys are the most trouble-free and have the best technical support.
(They are now owned by Cisco.)
