Techspot has a good round-up of DVD Burners.

Gone are the days of storage floppies and zip drives… CD-RW drives do an excellent job in making cheap backups and just about every new computer is equipped with one. As computers and software evolve, so will media. DVD burner drives are already optional equipment on many computers, and will probably become a standard within the next year. Are you ready for a DVD burner?

I have always liked the Plextor Drives, which one of these is best for you?

Find out about it here

I've been watching the prices of DVD burners fall & fall over the last six months and I'm on the verge of buying one.

Still undecided.

For me, it comes down to a choice between a Sony & a Pioneer. Both dual standard, both priced at around £160.00 at this point in time.

6 months ago they were both over £100.00 more than that.

Decisions, decisions

Flops,

Plextor has solved all problems by introducing two new burners which you can check at their website.

One is external and the other is internal and both are DUAL FORMAT!

Go to Plextor website. :spin:

Thanks for the link Quads, that internal model must be the best specced model I've yet seen.

However, as yet, I don't have a price for it.

I'm guessing it's going to be quite pricey, as for one it has high spec. and two, it's Plextor, who always seem more expensive than other makes of optical drives.

For DVD ROM Drives & CDRW devices, I've opted for Liteon the last couple of years, and this make has served me well.

I'm still studying the market, still undecided.

I do apreciate your input here Quads, most welcome, thank you :)

You are always welcome, Flops!

$293 for the internal one as per my checking on Froogle!

What Santa brings you eh Mucks? hehe, you may be right, that there Plextor is pricey, as I suspected, but it's price is in line with some other 'top end' devices.

Talking of Santa, I figure by Christmas time prices may just about be acceptable.

I'm in no rush, I want the DVD burner mostly for converting old VHS cassettes, family weddings, the kids and all that sort of stuff. Right now, I'm concentrating on scanning old film negatives which is taking what seems like forever. Quite enjoyable though :)

And then I'm really going to learn Photoshop.

And then I'm going to learn Dreamweaver and design a web site.

Haha! That should keep me busy until Christmas at least :D

And Quads - thanks for sourcing the price of that drive, I think it's definitely a contender.
