when adding shading to a cell only words are shading

I am trying to shade a cell in a table. The shading surrounds the column
title but not the rest of the cell when I print the page. How do I get the
entire cell to be highlighted?

It sounds like there are more than one line in the cell and you are selecting
text in the cell before you apply the shading. Try just clicking in the cell,
then use the Shading button on the Tables & Borders Toolbar to apply the
color you want.

If you're using Highlighting off the Formatting toolbar that only applies to
text. Instead use Format > Borders and Shading > Shading (tab) from the Menu
and make sure that Cell is selected in the "Apply To" dropdown when you set
the shading.

In the Format > Borders & Shading dialog, pay attention to the value in the
Apply To dropdown. When you're working on text in a table cell, that list
includes Text, Paragraph, Cell, and Table. It defaults to whatever was
selected when you opened the dialog, but you can change it before you click
OK. The value you want is Cell.
