Can anyone recommend a good service that gets a website in the Google and
other various search engines?

Thank You,

Bob

That won't hurt, but (1) it can take months to get listed in DMOZ, (2)
the whims of an editor may result in your site not being listed at all,
and (3) Google seems to be devaluing DMOZ in recent months. DMOZ has a
huge backlog and bit by bit is running up against the inherent
limitations of a human-edited directory.

Better to (1) submit to Google (not necessary but won't hurt), (2) find
other websites with similar or complimentary themes and request
reciprocal links, and (3) update your site content as often as you can
to keep the site fresh and googlebot coming back.

Stefan,

Any truth to the rumor that Google's micro-technology department is having
limited success with budgies?

While I agree that DMOZ can take quite awhile, I have never submitted a site
to it that wasn't eventually listed. Having your site listed there I believe
will give you a "bump up" in many other SE's. That being said, If a site is
found via Google crawlers from another site..that will help quite a bit as
well. Reciprocal links (to and from quality sites) is still a favorite of
Google as well.
