Hi all

Could i have a ramdisk(a drive on Ram), so i store
frequently and big neccesary files(such a fulltext
catalog in SqlServer) on it?
May this way increase the I/O Rate?

Thakns for attention...

Yes

XP 32 bit can address 4 GB of RAM. You could assign 1 or 2
GB as reserved for the purpose, you'd still need to have a
pagefile set aside and it should be large enough to cover
the RAMDISK too. So you might need to have 4 GB RAM and 4
GB of pagefile (swapfile) set aside.

Not a real answer but... it would depend very heavily on how much actual RAM
you have installed, your system overhead (how much is used to run the
current processes you use regularly) and whether the applications that you
want to use a RAM disk in conjunction with will work properly. Also there
are several different RAM Disk enabling programs available - if you choose
to use a Ram Drive try and get one that indicates it will meet your needs.

You DON'T want a RAM drive that steals so much available memory that it
leaves the system too lean to run without using the swap file. You DON'T
want a RAM Drive unless you have adequate backup power (UPS) as your date is
being written to a "drive" that will totally disappear if the power fails.
You DON'T want a RAM drive if your key programs will not read/write properly
using it.

FWIW,
Len
