What is: "Content index on c:\inetpub\catalog.wci could not be initialized. Error 3221225529." in

In Windows XP Pro, you can view the "Advanced System Information - Error Log." To do this, click on Start, Help and Support, Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems (under Pick a Task), Advanced System Information (under Tools in the upper left window), and finally View the Error Log (under Advanced System Information).

One error message that I see three times on different days in this "Advanced System Information - Error Log" is the following: "Content index on c:\inetpub\catalog.wci could not be initialized. Error 3221225529." Can anyone tell me what this error message means, and what I should do to try and fix this problem? I have had my computer mysteriously hang and/or not respond at times, which I suspect might be related to this error message.

Any help that anyone can give me in trying to diagnose this problem will be appreciated.

At one time in the past I installed IIS (Internet Information Services) on my computer,
but then I subsequently removed IIS. When I look at the Windows Component
Wizard, IIS is presently shown as NOT being installed on my computer.

I have no idea what the catalog.wci folder in the Inetpub folder on my computer is
supposed to be used for, nor do I know what the Inetpub folder is for. Most of the
other folders in the Inetpub folder are empty.

Then re-working E.T. Me's response:

IIS may have not been uninstalled properly.

Or you may have used "system restore" to restore XP back to a time before
you uninstalled it. (i.e. registery references may be there, but the files
are not.)

either way, the best response would be to reinstall IIS. reboot your PC,
then uninstall it again.

After some research, I determined that Microsoft Indexing Service was attempting
to Index the Internet Information Services (IIS) catalog, even though I had long
ago removed IIS from my computer. So I deleted the Web Catalog, which pointed
to the C:\:Inetpub folder. However, I had to temporarily stop the Indexing Service
in order to be able to delete this Web Catalog, after which I restarted Indexing
Service.

My guess is that when I removed IIS from my computer, it could not delete this
Web Catalog (if it even tried) because the Indexing Service was running. I do not
know if the process for removing IIS is supposed to be "smart" enough to check
whether IIS has any interaction with Indexing Service, and if so, take some action
to also remove it from Indexing Service.
