So you have now sent many thousands of copies of this all over the world.

Someone should email (e-mail address removed)12.va.us and ask him
to tell Paula Canaday to get a clue.

Before everyone joins a virtual mob, I'd just like to point out that there are a
lot of private forum operators that hijack Usenet newsgroups to goose their
perceived user activity. They don't necessarily let their members know this and
given Usenet's decline, wouldn't even know what Usenet is if they were told.

Here's a web site that purports to be a forum for homeowners:

http://www.homeownershub.com/

Right on the home page, you see what looks to be a lot of posts by users. Most
of those posts originate from the Usenet group alt.home.repair.

That's quite common. But pointing students towards an active forum is
another thing.

Here on NNTP (usenet), its fairly well known that google groups are
generally sources of noise from clueless users - google groups is often
cited as kill file material. I had thought they generally operated to
act as a central database for news in general and as a replacement for
the NNTP system as a whole, which has been declining in usage over
recent years.
I've not seen this use before - it looks like it may be useful, maybe,
kinda, sorta - dunno. But whoever came up with the idea of being useful
in a class situation /should/ get a clue - there are a lot of bad boys
in the back of the room here.

Yes, it is. Google Groups being the largest offender/example. My point was when
the vast majority of net users these equate Facebook with the Internet,
attempting to educate those persons about the difference between Usenet and a
private forum is a lost cause.

We're better off meeting at the local pub and sharing stories that start "When I
was a sysadmin..." and "I could always tell when Uni classes started because..."
