Weird playback problem in wmp9

Joey

I'll explain the problem first. When I play a video in
WMP9, there is very weird playback. I KNOW the video will
be about 5 minutes long, but it will only say it's a
53second video, or a 1 minute video etc. If I let it play
through that first minute, after that the video only plays
one frame every 20 or 30 seconds. If I click on the thing
and move the video position to anywhere, it'll play what
is supposed to be at that point. It's a very hard problem
to explain.. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I think this may be a codec problem, so first I'm going to
ask is there a way to uninstall ALL codecs AND Windows
Media Player 9. I've been looking for an uninstall but
haven't found anything yet. Thanks in advance

I should also add; these videos all play fine with RealOne
player, which is why I think it's a codec problem, but I
prefer wmp9 over RealOne.

I have the same problem but it only occurs in a dozen or so files (out of
hundreds) and it only occurs on 1 out of 4 home network machines (an XP Home
desktop, out of 2 XPh desktops, 1XPp laptop, and one 98se desktop).

I've already reinstalled codecs and that didn't help. Does the same thing in
my WinAmp player on the one machine. I think I've narrowed it down to
non-DivX encoded files, since they still begin to play without DivX decoder.
None of them give properties to identify codec, compression, etc.

Been bugging me for a long time and I just now turned to the newsgroups
(forgive me if this is a FAQ)
