WebView vs NNTP Posts [test]

Tim Clark

Someone mentioned in another topic that they were posting via NNTP and
wanted to make sure that the person they were replying to would see it
in the WebView based on the problems we have been having recently it
would seem.

I did, in fact, see the post in the WebView, so I am wondering if the
problem has been resloved.

So, this is a test of a post using NNTP [Thunderbird] to see if it shows
up in the Webview.

Success, well, sorta

The above post has appeared is the WebView, but it took over a half hour.
In the Webview it shows as having been posted at:
"11/14/2009 11:16 AM PST"
Which would be 11/14/2009 01:16 AM CST, i.e. 36 minute delay

But at least it showed up, so I guess the situation is improving.

If the pattern continues it should show up before 02:00pm CST USA

Confirmation [and correction]

Correction:
The above post Should have said:
If the pattern continues it should show up just AFTER 02:00pm CST USA

Confirmation:
The above post showed up at 02:06pm CST USA with a time stamp of:
12:06pm PST USA

So there is a significant delay, but they are showing up, at least for me.

I also just noted that a post by Randy Knobloch, which I think was made
using NNTP, in Announcmentsmade at 1:48pm CST USA also just appeared, at
2:26pm CST USA, again, about a 36 minute delay

Thanks for doing these observations.

I guess this is good news.

I've no idea what kind of mechanism involves that kind of delay, but at
least it is minutes--not days....

You're Welcome Bill,

Your post just showed up in Webview, again a delay of about 36 minutes, what
an odd number.

And, as of this evening, the NNTP server seems to have gone missing
completely. I wonder if they will be able to find it?

I've two alternative pictures--an ancient dell desktop with a pentium
processor sitting in the corner of some dusty room somewhere, or,
alternatively, it has been converted to a virtual machine, probably running
Windows XP, and is one of a zillion such machines on a vast HP refrigerator
sized server, and no one will notice that it isn't responding...

Bill, I just posted a reply to you in Announcements

It was not just you and it was not just NNTP.
The forum was down for WebView as well.

I hope this even gets through

I gather it got fixed after I went to bed. The failure affected more than
just the Windows Defender groups--I suspect a hardware problem.
