I heard a rumor that the WD 2.5 2tb have been experiencing a high
failure rate....? Has anyone heard anything...?

So far a failure rate of our disks is 4-5 per cent per year (we are using several hundreds of them). I do not know if it means a high rate to you but it is OK to us, especially bearing in mind how cheap their are.

5%/year is what manufacturers of consumer grade electronics are
aiming for. So this is pretty ordinary.
