WAV files play but don't play...

Greetings list,

Very strange (to me) problem here. We have a wav sound
that is on our Intranet site that is called by a program
and it is not playing. To troubleshoot, we point a web
browser (IE 6 SP1) to it. The media frame opens and the
progress bar moves like the file is being played, but no
sound. The file plays when you use a mapped drive and
file:///f:/path/to/file.wav syntax. Other sounds play
fine on the systems. Any ideas as to what I can look at
would be most welcome.

What the codec (audio format) is used within wav ?
Maybe You'd better choose some streamable format like Ogg, MP3, WMA ?
