Was CAPS ON/CAPS OFF on screen a Microsoft feature? Where go?

We just upgraded to Office 2007 (from 2000) and I'm missing the CAPS ON /
CAPS OFF screen display. Because I use a wireless keyboard the the caps-on
light is on the keyboard receiver (which is not within my range of site), I
have become used to seeing the on-screen display...is this a Microsoft Office
feature? If so, where did it go and why?

In Word 2007, to turn on the Caps Lock display on the status bar (are at
bottom of screen containing "Page...", etc.), right click in the status bar
to display the Customize Status Bar menu, click Caps Lock (so a check mark is
displayed to the left) and click anywhere in the document to exit the menu.
When you toggle on the Caps Lock feature, "Caps Lock" will be displayed in
the status bar. When you toggle it off, nothing will be displayed vis-a-vis
the Caps Lock status.

CAPS used to be on the status bar and was black when Caps Lock was on. This
was a long time ago--no later than Word 6, I think. It's still present in
Excel and you can add it in Word 2007, I believe.

In addition to adding the CapsLock indicator to your Word 2007 status
bar, you can make Windows generate an audible beep when you turn on/off
CapsLock, NumLock, and ScrollLock by clicking on Start | Control Panel |
Accessibility Options | Keyboard tab | check the "Use ToggleKeys" box | OK.
