WinXP:
My friend and I use "Net Send [username] [message]" to send each other
messages. But he can tell I am sending him the messages. Is it possible
I can send him a message and change the "from" so he thinks it's his
girlfriend or something? All for a laugh, nothing untoward....

Well, if you can administrater the girlfriends computer, you might use the
AT command to net send a message from that computer...

\\REMOTECOMPUTER1 = computer of girl friend
\\REMOTECOMPUTER2 = Computer of friend

It you are gonna use AT, be sure to check the time of the remote PC

NET TIME \\REMOTECOMPUTER1

and be sure to schedule at least 2 minutes in the future (or risk the change
the message wil never be send)

To schedule you can try this example

AT \\REMOTECOMPUTER1 23:59 "net send REMOTECOMPUTER2 Oh my god, I'm
pregnant!"

Thanks MightyKitten!
But I won't be able to remote from girlfriend's PC. Was hoping there was
a way I can change my name to someone else's so my friend would think it
was from his girlfriend or someone in another dept. Hee hee!

I'm afraid that the default net send command command will use internal
Windows variables for the computer and username (I tried to change the 'set'
variables USERNAME and COMPUTERNAME, but that did not work. Besides you have
to be very carefull when you do this.)

If the computernane of the girlfriens PC has a letter or number that looks
like an other letter or number ( 'Zero' and the letter 'O', 'one' and the
capital 'i' or lower 'l', p and q,) you can try to rename your computer and
use the other character.

There are however a couple of problems with this:
- your origional computer name is one (very noticable if you play network
games or share files)
- you have to reboot your computer to take effect. This might also be
noticable
- If the others just read carefully, the might see the difference at once.

Wait a minute, A quick google:

Or be very, very anoying:

Nice, but one thing: It can only send to a Network name, not to a user name.

Keeping it for some laughs, though

Send a message by entering it into the "free anonymous mail" field here:
http://www.mailfreeonline.com/ You can enter any sort of silly return email
address you like, and nobody will be able to tell that it came from you.
Each email does include a small note at the bottom indicating that it was
sent from this site, so receivers will *probably* realize that it's "fake,"
but it may suit your purposes just fine.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks for the links. I *did* search before asking but was stumped. And
to clarify again...it *is* for in-office fun, not for spamming or
anything like that. ;-)
If it turns out that she is pregnant, give your buddy J.C.'s addy and
blame it on him. He never uses patches!
