W2K DNS and SP3/SP4

Hi,

Is there a requirement to have all Windows 2000 DNS servers running on the
same service pack level ? We have a number of servers, some new ones on SP4,
and older ones still on SP3. The servers on SP3 pass all the DNS tests
(dcdiag and netdiag) but the ones on SP4 fail. We are seeing problems with
dns registration on the SP4 servers. We have our primary DNS server AD
integrated on an SP3 server, with a secondary on an SP4 machine, but even
that fails the DNS tests in dcdiag and netdiag. We initially noticed the
problem because we tried to promote a SP4 server to a DC, but Active
Directory replication was failing consistantly and error messages about dns
registration were coming up.

Any advice ?

Thanks

Andrew

Single label domain name maybe? (domain vs. domain.com)
This has always caused errors on XP Pro and starting with SP4 on Win2k if
there is a single label domain name.
