W2000 Icon Positions

Can anyone tell me please if there is a central file which identifies the
screen positions for all the desktop icons.

Reason for asking is that I keep my icons in a particular arrangement, and
occasionally the positions get lost and I have to sort them out again.

It would be nice if there were a file which I could copy and keep as a
backup of the present setup.

If they are positioned from obscure entries in the Registry then never mind.

They are. However, there are several utilities available which will
let you save and restore the positions.
Activicons (freeware) -
http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=58875 (the
options to save and restore the arrangement are on its "Desktop
Controls" screen).

EZ-Desk ($15) - http://www.ezwaretech.com/

Either of these will make it much easier to restore your desktop, and
both will save/restore multiple arrangements

(don't live at a com or net - address listed is altered)

Thanks for that. I suspected it might be in the Registry, but hoped it was
not.

Unfortunately I cannot use any of the suggestions, as installing additional
executable files onto this PC is prohibited, but thanks anyway.
