BASIL, I am in the total same situation as you. does
anyone have any clues. I believe that it definitly isn't a
router issue being that I have a client with the same
config, and all I did was foward the ports of 500, 47, and
1723 all to the rras server and it works fine. Yet one of
my other clients has the same issue that basil has...

I haven't found an answer yet. I'm starting a new
thread today under the heading of "Error 721 and
PPTPPING." We'll see how that goes.

Hi Mark,

PPTP does not use TCP port 47, it uses TCP 1723 and GRE which is IP
Protocol 47. You need to make sure your routers are allowing the GRE
traffic.
