Volume slider moves automatically

MS knowledge base article 279442 addresses this issue but
states it applies to windows 2000. I have this problem but
am running XP Home. Can the fix be applied to XP as well?

Gregg, if you have the ESS sound card then check here for a WinXP driver

I seem to have the same problem.

I have a Dell Latitude CpX H500GT

Whenever I moved the volume conrol up, it goes back down, so i went to the
Microsoft article 279442.

I went to the registry setting like it specified, but there was no key in
there "Enable HW Volume Control"

I tried re-installing the software and adding that key, but to no avail.

Any hints?
