How can I find out which version of Ultimate I have? When I run "winver" it
only says Microsoft Vista Ultimate Version 6.0. Thanks for you help!

Go to Start > Welcome Center > View Computer Details
and look under System to determine which bit version of Vista
you have.

Thanks for the response! I've tried that as well, it just simply state
Windows Vista Ultimate and nothing further. I am trying to update from this
link and just want to make sure I choose the right one of the two downloads.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941649#appliesto

Under system type it does say 32 bit operating system, but there again the
recommended download options offer only the 64 or 86. Not sure which to
choose.

Thanks!

Look closer at the wording, it says 64 bit or X86 (which is the 32 bit
version).

You are running a 32bit version. You require updates / software for 32 bit
system or X86 (which denotes 32bit)

86 bit? No such thing. I think you are referring to "Vista x86 and x64 based
versions" language on the relevant Microsoft download page. x86 would refer
to the 32-bit update. X86 doesn't mean 86 bit as i understand it.

Awesome, thank you very much for the information and the quick response.
Have a great day!!!

the "86" comes from the processor lines compatible with intel's xx86 line,
including the pretty famous 286, 386 & 486, which were 32 bits processors

64 bits processors are still compatible with those, plus 64 bits specific
instructions

and yes, i would prefer the people call x32 & x64 because it does make much
more sense, whoever begin to say x86 & x64 needs a kick in his/her ass XDD

Three points:

1. Hold down the Windows key, and press Pause/Break. It will answer
your question under "System Type."

2. There is no such thing as an 86-bit version. The choices are 32-bit
(by far the most common) and 64-bit.

3. If you don't already know the answer, almost certainly your are
running the 32-bit version. Almost nobody is running the 64-bit
version unless he's made an active choice to do so.
