Vista Home Premium Freezes on startup and then won't shutdown

J

Jon.

I've got a brand new Acer 4520. It came preinstalled with Vista Home
Premium. I've gone through the initial setup/registration screens for both
Vista and Symantec (which came preinstalled as well). Once all of that was
done, the machine wanted to reboot. When it attempted to come back up, it
hung on the screen with the little scrolling bar.

I hit the esc key and it continued to boot seemingly normally; however, when
I went to shut down, it simply rebooted. Repeated attempts to shutdown also
rebooted (and no, I'm not telling it to reboot). I've tried the shutdown
from the login screen and it does the same thing. I finally resorted to just
hitting the power button. The next time I started the machine it booted up
fine but did the same thing when I attempted to shutdown. Subsequent bootup
attempts have resulted in the same freezing behavior until I hit the esc key
and the same behavior when I tried to shutdown. I'm not even sure whether I
should hit up Microsoft support for it or Acer at this point.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an ACER problem to me.
ACER is not known for quality hardware.

Good Luck
