I have recently discovered that I have this virus at
c:\DocumentsandSettings\User\LocalSettings\Temp\TH17792.tmp\mxTarget.cab<mxTarget.dll>

I've never removed a virus before and ran my antivirus protection which
cleaned out one virus but left this.. could someone please tell me how to
delete this.

thanks so much,

This is a temporary file. The fact it's in a .cab suggests it's a leftover
from a software-install. It's very unlikely it's actually doing anything, in
fact it might even be a false-positive.

The simple answer is to try to delete the file in Explorer; if you can't
then it is active, and in that case you need to delete it in Safe Mode.

In fact, you could almost certainly delete the entire TH17792.tmp folder,
it's a temporary folder that should've been removed by the software then
created it anyway.

Hi, Ian. Please quote some of the original post when replying. The OP
said:

The OP's computer is most definitely infested with at least the
ABetterInternet malware (not a virus, but we have no idea if the
computer also has more viruses) and simply deleting the file will not
clean her computer.

To the OP - here are malware removal steps you must go through
systematically:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this since we all have our areas of expertise - take the computer to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA).

You can always delete a temp file but this doesn't mean it will not come
back because some other application is creating it.That's why you should do a
full scan of your computer .

I suggest you visit my web-site
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg
and perform the *fast* malware removal instructions

They will help you scan(check) and clean all kind of viruses, worms, trojans
and non-viral infections of malware such as spyware, dialers, hijackers and so
on .By the way malware means and comes from MALicious softWARE.

When you clean your computer , learn how to adequatedly protect it.You can
again goto my site and have a look at the "Protect your PC" section which is
really useful for newbies,I think.
Another source of useful information is http://www.microsoft.com/protect

If you are not sure or you have questions regarding the instructions , post
again!
You can also take your computer to a reputable professional computer store
and ask IT specialists for help. (key words here : reputable , professional ,
specialist) _-_-_-_-_-_-_
:)

Best regards!

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm
