A virus I had caused a bluescreen desktop and Norton found the virus but
couldn't do anything about it, so I deleted it myself. After that the screen
was gray. I went to properties and all it showed was the path to where the
image the virus displayed was. How do I get my old properties back? Please
help!

You should have gone online to the Symantec website and followed the
directions to remove the virus.
For your future reference...if NAV does not remove a file, it is for *A
REASON*. *You* deleted the file and caused your system to become
unbootable.

Time to wipe/reinstall.

Hello
Before doing a complete reinstal try this
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307545#kb1 I know the symptoms they
describe are different to what you are experiencing, but this method allows
you to reinstate a registry from a restore point. This will only work if
system restore is switched on. Also if the virus or its deletion have
removed startup files the method will also not work. In which case install a
second copy of Windows XP ie not deleting the original version. When that is
done you can copy boot files to the damaged installaton, and given some luck
be able to restart the currently damaged installation. Once inside do a real
Restore using the utility, then if happy delete the installation you have
just put on. This way you will retain your system settings and will not need
to reinstal your software.
