Using Public Folder Favorites vs. Public Folder Item

We're currently using Outllook 2003/MS Exhchange 2003. We're creating a
Public Folder contact folder for our Sales team to centralize their business
contacts for use by the marketing department. We're going to be utiziling
the different View features to filter out the records to the different
account execs and assistants.

We were thinking of using the Synchronization: Filter option and have the
account execs work solely from the Public Folder Favorite contact folder
(then they wouldn't have to add that filter option to every view they
create/modify).

I know the .ost file can get corrupted, are there any other performance
issues? Or is the best practice to work from the Public Folder source item
when online?

Thanks for your help!

Favorites will be more efficient, especially if most of the interaction with
the data is reading not writing.

There may be issues if you are using a custom form in the folder. Test
thoroughly.

Thanks Sue. We are going to be using a Custom contact form.

Once the contact records are entered I anticipate the majority of the
interaction to be creating different views to sort/filter information for
mailing and email lists (the marketing dept will just copy and paste the
information into Excel and use Word to create labels using MailMerge).

Are there documented issues using custom forms in the Favorites folder? I
saw some things in the knowledge base but they seemed to be revolving around
Office SP upgrades or thousands of folders (which we won't have).

Thanks again for your help!

P.S. I bought your book, Mircosoft Outlook Programming, and adapted your
script to import existing contacts from a .cvs file. . .saved me a ton of
work!!

The major documented problems are solved by SP1. However, I haven't kept
track of all the little oddities that Ken Slovak and others has seen in
Cached Exchange mode. Your scenario would seem pretty straightforward and
trouble-free, though.
