User authentication

I have a user who changed his Windows password two days ago. Since then he
will work for a few minutes while in Outlook 2003, and suddenly
theusername\password box appears asking to be authenticated.
1) I have reset his password, changed to a new password, but we still have
the same issue.
2) I've had him reboot his device.
3) I've made the changes directly in the AD, but still nothing.

We have a AD 2003, run Windows Server 2003 Domain Cotrollers, we also run
Exchange 2003 with Outlook 2003 as client on desktops.
Of our 1500 users no-one else has this problem, can someone please help?

This group is for the support of Windows Defender, which isn't involved in
your issue in any way as far as I can tell.

My thought is that there is a password saved somewhere (the old one?) which
is being offered for some reason when Outlook is in use.

However, I don't know enough about how Outlook and Exchange handle
credentials to know whether this idea has any validity. It may also depend
on how your network is set up--for example, is rpc over http available to
your users?

I'd be inclined to suggest running this by either Exchange admins, or Server
2003 admins--probably the best route to a forum for server 2003 would be to
start at the page for server 2003 at www.microsoft.com and look for
pointers to peer support forums.

I'm sorry I can't provide a direct link at the moment--my time is pressed,
but if you haven't solved this by, say, 4 hours from now, let me know and I
should be able to give you clearer pointers to a more appropriate pointer
this evening.
