USB Pendrive

Whenever I remove my pendrive from my front USB port - my
computer reboots.
I am stopping the mass storage device correctly by
selecting it and clicking on stop before attempting to
remove it physically, as soon as I click on stop the
computer reboots.
The pendrive works OK on another computer running Windows
2000 - it brings up the correct window (it is now safe to
remove the device) after clicking on stop

Do you have the latest USB drivers loaded
Do you have the latest bios updates installed for your computer as USB
related fixes can be provided within bios updates... (if you are using the
motherboard's USB connectors...)

Try this control panel> system> advanced> startup and
recovery> settings> on system failure un-check
automatically restart. if it's creating a disk error on
removal it could rebooting bacause of that. I have a card
reader that does.

System restarts automatically because of a STOP error and if XP is configured to "Automatically Restart" on errors. In this case, exact error is unknown.

So, you want to uncheck the "Automatically Restart" option and next time, system won't reboot again. Instead it shows the STOP blue screen. There you can identify which driver is causing the error.

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.
Under System Failure, select the check boxes that correspond to the actions that you want Windows to perform if a sever error occurs.
Uncheck "Automatically restart"

Next time, you will see a Bluescreen error instead of sudden reboot. Note down the error code and driver file name if displayed.
