USB Easy Transfer Cable for file transfer between 2 XP machines

It appears that the Easy Transfer Cable is a special USB cable
designed for communication between an XP and Vista system. It seems
to me, that the same cable with the appropriate driver, could be used
between 2 XP systems. I am not interested in running the Easy
Transfer software, rather just having a means to provide a quick link
between two XP machines. I would think that with the proper driver,
one of the machines could look like a peripheral device. I image this
is one of the things that the Easy Transfer Cable software provides
and I am guessing that it makes the Vista machine look like a
periheral.

Is there something electrically special about the Easy Transfer Cable
or is the magic in the driver, and if so, has some enterprising person
written that driver to run under XP?

Thank you,
Fred Jacobowitz
