Upgrade problem from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home Edition

I have anCompaq Presario 7470 with Widnows 98. I upgraded
it from Win 98 to XP successfully. Unfortunately I had a
Compaq CD for Win 98 that was only a restore CD. When I
went to get a prgram off of it my win XP operating system
became corrupted. I went to reinstall the original win 98
(since win XP upgrade disk does not recognize Compaq
Restore CD's) and the again upgrade to win XP. When I do
this it goes through the process (upgrading from the hard
drive) and always gives me teh blue STOP screen while it
is copying files furing setup (it gets about 78% when it
hits teh blue screen). The error is 0x000007. It has not
explanation so I do not know what is wrong. I have
upgraded teh BIOS, alll of teh drivers (I checked it with
the win 98 system checker). Any idease on what this eror
means and what I can do about it?

See if this helps: "How to Troubleshoot Windows XP Setup Problems When
You Upgrade" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310064).
If not, you may be better off getting a full-version CD of Windows XP
and clean-install this OS.
