In the process everything stops and I get a message that says there is an error and the procedure will be closed. By looking into the details I noticed that it deals with the file "migrate.dll" Unfortunaltely I did not other notes about the message.

I presently have Win98SE on my system.
Motherboard ASUS P2B-F with the lates BIOS update for that particular boad. Processor 1.4mhz

I would appreciate any help ....

Thank You.

Never "upgrade", always perform a Clean Install.

Obviously, ensure you have any needed data backed up first.

Also make sure you have the relevant drivers for your system & Win2K to hand.

It's possible there may be a hardware conflict ... Win2K is NT based and can find wee problems with things such as a bad ram stick.

You mean you formatted your hard drive and only presented the Win98 CD during installation as proof of ownership?

If so, I can only suggest trying again. Annoying, but worth a shot.

Having formatted with MaxBlast3 and following this action I indicated during this process that I was upgrading to win2000 and this program would format and prepare the drive accordingly. And it is during this process (after initiating the process of installing win2000 by inserting de win2000 cd)that I got a kernel32 if I recal?

Note that when I tried afterward, after installing win98SE and simply upgrade to win2000 this is when the Migrate.dll notice appeared......

I do Hope all of this makes sense!!

If you indicated during the Maxblast 3 process that you were upgrading it's likely it would have left certain Win98 files intact although I'm not sure as I've never used that software.

It would be best to boot from your Win 2000 CD and when you are presented with the option to format the disk, do so choosing NTFS file format.

Then follow the upgrade procedure.

It's likely that at some stage during the installation WIN2K will prompt you to insert your Win 98 CD as proof of ownership.

This way should give you a nice clean installation.

Then get all the latest updates and service packs from the MS website.

Good luck.

claprade,

Do not use any 'format' managers such as Maxblast ... no need.

Get your PC to "boot from CDrom" drive via the BIOS and just follow the instructions.

Press any key to boot from the CD drive.

At the appropriate screen, delete any & all partitions, format using NTFS

Wait!

it will reboot, do not press any key

Wait!

... answer some more questions

it will reboot, do not press any key

Done!
