Update KB832483

D

Don

I keep installing update No. KB832483 both through
automatic update and web update but it keeps telling me
that I need to do the update again. When I do the actual
update it shows that it was successfully installed but the
next day it shows that I need to install it again.
HELP!

Can you tell us whether the problem affects everyone who tries to install
this patch or just certain machines that are in a particular configuration
or patch level? I have not installed the patch and do not plan to unless I
know it is going to work properly. The last patch (824145) broke normal
scrolling behavior in IE6, but at least there was a way to uninstall it.
Since MSFT has yet to officially acknowledge that one, not to mention fix
it, and two months have passed, I am just a bit skeptical that we will see a
fix for this latest problem any time soon.

Forgive my irritated tone. I get that way when I am irritated.

Seems to be particular configurations of W2K that are affected - but I'm not
100% on that. I do know people are working to fix it as soon as possible.
What version of MDAC do you have?

Re 824145, I'm pretty sure that's been mentioned before - I know I've
discussed it with others in the newsgroups, anyway. (The workaround is to
click close to the slider to move one page, further away to move further).

Looks like I am running 2.5. I don't do much DB stuff generally. But I am
on W2K. I think I'm going to wait a while before installing the patch.
Hopefully, someone will figure it out eventually. Thx.

If you want to install the Service Pack 2 or 3 for MDAC 2.5 that should get
it to install correctly (it's not for 2.5 RTM). Or upgrade to 2.8 of course
if you prefer to do that. Otherwise, yes, you'll have to wait for the fix
to get published.
