untitled bmp crapola!!!

O

Oregon503

NONE of the suggestions offered by Mr.Inzer have worked to help me save
pix from outlook express, internet explorer or any newsgroups as jpegs, even
when the file extension say jpeg... the dialog boxex always say
"untitled...save as "bitmap"
I have well over 20 freakin hours wasted in trying every fix suggested by
microsoft, e-machines, my ISP, and suggestions from friends, I can't seem to
find an answer and I have now spent more than a week trying to find out why,
in the blink of an eye my pc decided it couldn't save a jpeg as a jpeg.
It simply can't be that hard, and as evidenced from my attempts, LOTS of
people have this problem. I have "restored" twice, spent a coupla hundred
buck on bug doctor, zone alarm, and mcafee, and I'm really getting weary...
can ANYBODY suggest something more than using my year old computer as a boat
anchor???
TIA
SG
p.s. no slam to you John..it's an "other-world" problem...

Hey....I get it right once in a while.

Tried everything? Maybe the following will be
something new:

You may need to do some editing in your
registry...carefully read the following article
first before proceeding:

Information About Editing the Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256986#Topic2

====================================

".jpg extension may be incorrect in registry"

Go to...Start / Run...

Type in "regedit" (without the quotes)...OK.

In your registry editor...drill down to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)
(don't change anything...just observe)

Also you might check:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/pjpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)

If the *Extensions* are incorrect, changing them to .jpg
may solve your problem.

To make the change...

Left click "Extension" to select it.

With "Extension" selected...go to...Edit / Modify...

Replace the text in the "Value data" field with
".jpg" (without the quotes)...OK.

Close the registry editor....File / Exit.

I have similar problem to others posted on Oct 2, 2004

I have Windows XP Home Edition.

September 24, 2004 was the last day I was able to:

1. select an image,
2. right click with my mouse,
3. select "Save Image As..." whereupon a Save Image Window opens
with option to chose name with .gif extension
4. I chose name
5. Selected "Save" whereupon the machine completed the action without error
message

No image was saved. Search did not reveal the named image anywhere on
my "C" drive.

I followed instructions to edit registry.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg

The extension .jpg was correct.

Problem remains unsolved.

Thank you for the help.
I was not able to save images as .bmp nor .gif. using Netscape 7.1 or I E 6.0.
I downloaded SP2. Not much help.
Then downloaded Netscape 7.2. That worked and I am saving images in .gif
format. Back to normalMaybe this would help others. jorge61
