Uninstalling MSI 2 on Win2K

Richard

Hi,

I want to uninstall MSI 2.0 (2.0.2600.2) from a SP3 Win2K station.

I believe the MSI 2.0 installer cause the user part of the Office 2K
installation to be re-run each time a user start an Office application.
This happend since I applied the patch for the bug "Office 2000 Prompts You
to Register After April 15, 2003" (KB 818798 ).

I wanted to uninstall MSI 2.0, but I can't manage to do this since its
apparently protected by the system.

I would like to go back to the version 1.1 or 1.2.

How may succeed doing this ?

Thanks,

--Richard.

Stephan,
Have a look on this article, it's not a recommended
solution.

This is an impressive article. I tried to do the same, but I have not gone
this far.
At one point I had no choice but to give up and insert my SP3 CD...

I will try this on my scratch computer.
You should rather fix the problem in the Office
product.

I believe that the real trouble is that Office was installed using MSI 1.1
or 1.2, the Win2K SP3 change the MSI installer to version 2.0. But this
version is no more able to understand some part of what has done MSI 1.x.
Thus, I plan to go back to MSI 1.x, clean up the mess, upgrade MSI to 2.0,
install Office 2K (perhaps directly with SR3). Cheers !

Thanks,

--Richard.

PS : This web site seems interesting on its own...
