Uninstall Windows Defender

The error message is caused by your antivirus program disabling Windows
Defender unsuccessfully.

Start Windows Defender UI--this should be possible even with the error
message, I believe. Go to Tools, Options, and scroll down to the bottom
using the scroll bar on the right-side of the window.

UNCHECK the box titled something like: "Use the program."

That will disable Windows Defender and should stop the error message which
results from its unsuccessfully attempting to start and being blocked by
your antimalware program.

Hi, I have the same problem, the 800108ba errror pops up every time I boot
up, its so annoying, I am running Norton 360 and this reports that Windows
Defender is not active, so why does the error message appear? More to the
point how do I get rid of it?

Try this:

Start, run, type "services.msc" without the quotes in the box, and hit
enter.

Go down the list of services and find Windows Defender, right click it, and
change startup to "disabled." If the service is presently started, stop it.

This should cure the problem, but please be VERY careful in this
application. Changing the default status of services can have long term
consequences that are unexpected. Please don't change these settings
without careful research.

I can't disable Defender in Vista, and I can't remove it because it's not in
the programs list. I have an error message on start up that Windows tells me
requires me to uninstall and then install it again -- when that didn't work
(because I couldn't find it) I just tried installing -- and the message came
up that it was already installed. Go look in the Windows Security Window.
So I did, clicked on Defender... and got the error message. SCREAM!!!

Please use the steps in my message of August 13, nearby in this thread, to
disable the service.

I am having the worse time uninstalling defender. I went to the add/remove
program screen and tried to remove the program, but it says I need a disk to
do it (which I don't have). Is there anyway to get around this?

It's so nice to sit in the ivory tower and talk to the little people. It's
not necessary to have windows defender to eliminate all those nasty little
pests you speak of dave. And windows defender is a pain in the ass. It takes
things off of your computer that you want on it. Somebody told me about it
but I didn't believe it until it happened to me yesterday with regcure. I've
had it on for years and all of a sudden yesterday defender decides it
shouldn't be there. And puff. It's gone. And God only knows what else it does
without me even knowing it. Keep Defender. I'll take care of the spyware with
the millions of other good and safe programs. Funny thing is defender doesn't
do a thing most of the time . Nothing at all. So there. Scarcastic answers
are not necessary.

Windows Defender logs events such as you are describing.

Can you post the event log entries showing Windows Defender removing this
application?

Windows Defender on my Vista laptop is not letting me run the Internet or very few programs. I can NOT disable it, as there is no tools option. Tried reinstalling defender in hope the tools option would appear, nothing. I have tried to repair, nothing. I tried disabling from the services AND msconfig, nothing. I tried creating the ghost registry key for Windows Defender, nothing. There doesn't seem to be a registry key at all for Defender in Vista. Fine it can't be uninstalled, I want to disable the thing so I can actually use my machine. There are hundreds of safe and reliable firewalls and anti-virus programs - this is a memory hog and a PAIN that I want gone. Thanks :)
