Uninstall uninstall info?

T

Tom Horsley

Seems like over the years somewhere around 47,000 updates and
service packs have created backup files and entries in Add/Remove
programs for un-installing themselves.

The ability to uninstall such things is undeniably a good thing,
but after they have worked out well for several months, the
uninstall stuff degrades into useless clutter clogging up my
C: drive :).

Is there a tool out there for removing really old unstall
info?

If you're confident that you won't need to uninstall either the
service pack or any of the subsequent hotfixes, you can safely delete
those folders. You can then open the Control Panel's Add/Remove
Programs applet and select each of the pertinent removal choices, in
turn. You should get an error message stating that the removal files
are missing, and asking if you'd like to delete the menu option.

Tom,

please read

for details. There's a tool on the web site.

Thanks for all the info on this. I'll probably give one of these
a try after I complete my next backup.
