Unauthorized downloading

How can I prevent family members from downloading programs on my computer
running XP Home. They all have limited accounts but they still download
programs without my permission. Any suggestions are appreciated. I am of
course concerned about virus' to name a few!! Thankyou

Put a password on it and tell the family members they've lost the privilege
to use the computer.

You may have to check out adding restrictions into Internet Explorer for
each account. Check out the Microsoft Knowledge Base
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?ln=EN-US&pr=kbinfo&) or the
online IE support group (microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.browser).
Less drastic than pulling the plug completely

Downloading = retrieving from the internet

Install = load program onto computer

What are you asking? Are you really talking about downloading?

use a download manager and
use an AV that scans for downloads after downloading
set the download manager to be the default for all downloading

Inform them that if they want to use your pc then they have to follow
your rules. If they dont like it, they can get jobs and buy their own
computer.
