unable to install any windows updates

I can't install any updates. I receive error
message "setup couldn't verify the integrity of the file
update.inf. make sure the cryptographic service is
running" I've checked that the service is on.

Also receive "software hasn't passed windows logo testing
to verify compatability".

I've tried trouble shooting advice but still not working

any ideas?

The <path>\Update.inf file is not correct.
If Cryptographic Services has NOT been started, you will receive this error.
To resolve this problem:
1. Open a CMD prompt.
2. Type net start "Cryptographic Services".

Just to add:

A CMD prompt - explained
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK
button.
