Unable to import email from Outlook Express 6

I have a new PC which is running XP pro and Office 2003
and using Outlook. My old PC is running Windows 98 and
Outlook Express 6. I am trying to move the email and
address book fron the old PC to the new. I have the
files on the new PC - exporting using the XP pro Files
and Settings transfer wizard. When I try to import the
mail and addresses, I get this message / Import
Error "The mail folder could not be opened. If another
application is using this file, please close it and try
again". I have tried copying the files to other folders
and importing and get the same message. The folders are
checked as read-only and when I uncheck read only they
always revert to read only. Any help?? Thanks.

My problem is similar to Ken's except my old PC O/S is NT4 and it has O
5. My new PC is XP Pro with MS Office Outlook 2003. I get the sam
error message "The Mail Folder Could Not Be Opened..." I have bee
trying for the past 3 days to import the contents of my OE5 Inbox int
Outlook. I am about to go back to my old PC and resend all the message
in my old inbox back to myself and then return to my new PC and pul
them down from my ISP's mail server! It would take a while but it can'
take any more time than I've already wasted! Is it my only option?

David's post was unclear to me. You mean I have to install OE5 on m
new PC in addition to Outlook 2003? This sounds like it may create som
conflicts having them both running on the same machine...

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.
