unable to delete calendar or appointments - "unknown error"

L

Larry

After having some problems trying to sync my Dell Axim PDA
with Outlook 2002 (using Win 2K and ActiveSync), and
getting multiple incorrect entries, I tried to delete my
Outlook calendar and contacts so that I could reinstall
them from the correct files in my Axim by syncing as a new
connection. I found, however, that each time I try to
delete even one entry, I get a message that says "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook". How can I fix this
error, so that I can delete the entries from Outlook?
Replacing the Outlook.pst file is not an option, because
of all the email saved in it, and the accounts and message
rules that I've set up.

Empty your Deleted Items folder and try again with SHIFT+DELETE

I tried emptying the deleted items folder and then using
shift+delete, but it hasn't made any difference. I'm
still getting the same message "The messaging interface
has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists,
restart Outlook". I have discovered that it's only the
calendar causing the problem. I was able to delete
contacts OK, but the calendar won't let me delete even a
single entry! Any other suggestions?

I tried running scanpst, and it told me that there were no
errors. When I tried again to delete any calendar entry,
I got the same message. I was able to delete all other
category functions (contacts, notes, and tasks), but not a
single calendar entry, let alone all. Interestingly
enough, I can copy an entry, and then delete that, but
still can't delete anything that was there before. The
first two ideas on the web page didn't work either. Any
further ideas. This is a really strange one!

Create a new pst-file by File-> New-> Outlook Data File... Set this pst-file
as your default delivery location in your Account settings (Tools-> E-mail
Accounts-> button Next). When you now restart Outlook your original pst-file
will show up as the secondary set of folders where should easily be able to
remove the item from. Set the original pst-file as the default delivery
location again and restart Outlook.
