Un install and then re install

I have a second desktop computer with a problem. Same problem after
using a different mouse.
Once in a while I can do the single click on the mouse. (which I prefer)
But almost always the mouse will do a double click.
I am wondering if there is a way that I can un install the mouse, and then
reinstall the mouse. Hopefully this will solve the double click issue.
I checked into the mouse settings and the computer says that the mouse
is functioning very good. I did not set the mouse for double click.

Windows XP pro sp3
Outlook Express 6
Internet Explorer 8

I had asked this question about 3 weeks ago, but I never seen the post.
So I re submitted the same post, and as before I never saw the post.
Perhaps this time I will be able to post this question.

Which mouse settings did you review...If you open device mgr, expand the
mouse tree,R.click on the hardware, select "properties",a set of mouse
settings are available..Also,one can R.click the mouse hardware, select
"uninstall" or "disable",with uninstall,after,restart xp,xp will reinstall
it for
you.Or,if its a usb mouse,after uninstall,exit xp,shutdown pc.Connect mouse
to a diffrent usb connection, restart pc.

As "J. P. Gilliver (John)" says in his post, it is probably not a problem with the
mouse itself or it's drivers, but more likely it is going to be the double-click
speed.

If the double-click speed is set too slow then two clicks, quite far apart, will be
interpreted as a double-click.

Setting the double-click speed further to the "Fast" end of the slide may cure the
problem.

Again, this setting can be found in :

"Control Panel" > "Mouse" > "Buttons" tab > central area "Double-click speed"

Also, check that the setting in :

"Control Panel" > "Folder Options" > "General" tab > lowest area "Click items as
follows"

....is set to "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" and *not* set
to "Single-click to open an item (point to select)".

I found a solution that now works wonderful. It is a trick I learned a long
time ago about cleaning electronic switches and other parts.
I took the hood off the mouse and then squirted just a little Naptha into
the
switch for clicking the mouse.
If you don't know what that is, it is cigarrett lighter fluid, the fluid
dries
clean. Don't use alcohol because it leaves an oil residue.
By the way, i also disconnected the mouse (while the computer was turned
off, actually unplugged) before I squirted the switch.
I know that it is not expensive to buy a new mouse, but why buy a new one
when the old one works good. Even though I struggled with it for a long
time.

Also, check that the setting in :

"Control Panel" > "Folder Options" > "General" tab > lowest area "Click
items as
follows"

....is set to "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" and
*not* set
to "Single-click to open an item (point to select)".
