Trying to save JPEG but become bitmap instead

Chris

For some reason when I try to save a JPEG off of a
website the only option I have is to save it as a bitmap.
This never use to be a problem but somehow the settings
must have changed.

Can anyone give some pointers?

Thanks

I had this happen to me and the solution that worked for
me was to EMPTY (Delete)my Temporary Files Then, the
next time I tried to save a JPEG file, it worked just
fine...

I'm having the same problem. Tried emptying out Windows/Temp file but it
still wants to only save a jpg image off a web page to a bmp format. Seems
like one of these recent critical updates changed it.

Winndows/temp file is a good thing to clean out occasionally, but empty the
Temporary Internet Files too, if they get too full or corrupt you will get
the error you have.

Open IE, click tools, internet options, general tab, about the middle of the
page.

apply, ok out, reboot, and see if it works now.

This appends when the web servers do not send the "Content/type: image/jpg"
header, and let I.Explorer detects itself the format of the image. It is a
I.E. bug, and I think there is nothing you can do.

It appends with GIF/PNG/anyother file format : if the Content/type is empty
or is wrong, you could only save has BMP (depends of IE and OS version, of
course :) )

Thanks Jone. After I posted my message I remembered the Temporary Internet
Files. (Actually, this is a nice location to nab those great SWF files and
whatnot that are very difficult to otherwise save) I prefer to use Windows
Explorer and do it manually. Being an old DOS guy I've very comfortable
with file utilities. Plus I don't want to delete some cookies which will
force me to enter info again on certain sites. Sort the files by type or
size then delete the larger ones. For some reason the Battle of Britain mod
for BF1942 was in there ... all 40+ mb of it.

Yep, clearing out some space here definately solved my problems. Now it
saves jpgs as jpgs instead of as bmps.

You're welcome. My first "real" computer used DOS 1.25 and had a whopping
10 Meg Hard Drive, so I love DOS also.

Have a look at CacheSentry:
http://www.mindspring.com/~dpoch/enigmatic/index.html

By the way, clearing the IE Temporary cache does not remove the cookies.
In fact there is a separate button in IE V6.0 to do this. It is always
good to set the cache to only 50 Megs and clear it regularly as this speeds
up browsing.
