Trusted Sites feature doesn't work

Hi experts,

I followed the instructions below but WinXP Pro still does not recognize trusted sites. So to use Microsoft Windows Update I have to set my Security and Privacy levels back to "Default" then remember to set them back higher again when I'm done. That's annoying and inconvenient, especially when I don't remember 100% of the time to reset them afterwards.

Here's part of what microsoft.com displays when it blocks you from accessing Windows Update:

To add Windows Update to the trusted sites zone:

On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the Security tab.
Click the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites...
Uncheck the "require server verification" checkbox.
Make sure the following URLs are listed in the Web Sites list box:
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.com

Even though both the above urls are in my trusted sites list, the Windows.com site still blocks me from accessing Windows Update until I reset my security and privacy levels down to Default.

Is this a bug? is there a patch for it????? or is there something else that needs to be done e.g. adding windows.com as a trusted site.

Thanks,
Robert

It sounds like you've cranked up the settings on the
trusted sites zone. Do you not trust your trusted sites
that much?

Actually, I haven't bumped that up at all -- my Trusted Sites security level is set to Low.....
