trojan.gema virus update

I re-ran my Norton Anti-virus program after restarting my
computer in the "safe" mode. The program detected the
virus "trojan.gema" in the file: c:\windows\system32
\pixelsvr.exe and then deleted the file.

Now when I restart my computer, I now get the message
that the file "pixelsvr.exe" referenced in the windows
registry cannot be found (obviously, since the Norton
program deleted it!).

I don't know what the file does and, thus far, my
computer seems otherwise unaffected by its deletion.
However, I'd like to reload a clean copy of this file.
Is there a straight-forward way to do this - either from
Microsoft or some other means?

I still have my original system disks (which were pre-
loaded when I bought the system 2 years ago), but I don't
want to reload from them... Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rick

same thing happened here. trojan .gema has corrupted pixelpwr32 and has sice deleted them under safe mode in the registry. each time i start pc note always pops up not able to access pixelpwr32. i updated norton pc virus file and library and once restarted norton pops up w/ updated file asking if i want infected file fixed. it did attempt to fix it but failed. i guess we are relying on the mercy of norton to come up with a fix.

Go to the post in here called Trojan Gema, dated 12/20. Ronnie Vernon MVP tells you how to fix this problem. I had the same problem and my message at boot up is gone. The file is somewhere else in your registry.

Cindy,

I did go back to earlier postings about the Trojan.Gema
virus and these led me to the Symantec support center
at: "http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/
data/pf/trojan.gema.html".

I followed the directions there about removing spurious
entries from the WINDOWS registry (after first creating a
backup of the registry as they advised). I'm happy to
report that my computer is now back to "normal", with all
traces of the virus removed.

Thanks very much for your lead on this and have a great
New Year!

Rick
