Timed Out Error with IE and FireFox

I am receiving the following error (or something like
this):

"The operation timed out while connecting to...(for
example) www.cnn.com" when using my web browsers.

This error happens periodically - about 2 times an hour.
I have attempted 'repairing' the network connection, but
this does not allieviate the issue. Eventually, I must
reboot the computer to gain access to the internet via a
web browser. This issue is occurring when I use both
Internet Explorer and with FireFox browsers.

Interestingly, my internet gateway shows that there is no
loss in service. I am also able to connect to the
internet with other programs while this error occurs (ie.
program updates, instant messanging services, etc..). It
seems to be an error entirely related to web browsing.

I am utilizing XP SP2, Trend Micro Internet Security, and
Qwest DSL service with MSN as my ISP provider.

Any thoughts on solving this issue?

Disable trend micro and activate the windows firewall. Do the problems
still occur?

I have disabled the Trend Micro firewall and enabled the
Windows firewall. The problem still occurs.

Do the problems

It could be hardware. How are you connecting to the internet - with a
NIC? If so swap out the card and see.
